Good find. Thanks for sharing it.

Although, the Canadian price in USD eq after the conversion fees works out to $26xx. A good $300 lower. Even with cashback and resale value for the add-ons in the Adorama kit, it still works out to about $100 to 150 lower from Canada. Many Canadian stores have it in stock and some are offering free shipping too.

As it is delivery from Adorama will be closer to Oct 28th which is more or less the same with some Canadian stores that are currently out of stock.

It's basically the camera and lens, and a bunch of junk you don't need. OK, granted, the extra battery is good, but the other things are just junk (and I am sure they carry a much higher profit margin for the retailer too).

Just checked Canadian exchange rate, from what I see, it is up to $1.03.

EDIT: Went down to $1.02.

Yeah.. you are getting a new camera for $2K right? Others are still selling for at least 200 more

OK, if you are happy with the deal, that's all that matters, and I am happy for you.

But to me, you have to spend $3K to get "a new camera for $2K". That's like someone sells you a new car for a certain amount of money, then sell you a coffee mug at a hefty price. Overall, you may still get a pretty good deal, but not as good as you may think. Retailers do this all the time, and this is clearly one of the cases.

If you were going to buy the 24-105 anyway or want to deal with selling it, then you're really not spending 3k to get a 2k camera.

if anyone wants one, henry's just sent me an email that one has shipped. i no longer need it and they were suppose to call me before sending it....so i will sell it for exactly whatever it cost me ($2012) + actual shipping to your house.

That is a good deal.

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

I think Merkle still has them in stock:

http://www.merklecamera.com/spec_sheet.html?catalog (external link)[product_guids][0]=8d3a62ed-37a9-41e8-9be2-3d1463943c39

My experience with Merkle has been full of frustration so far.

I placed an order on 6th October and didn't hear from them for about 3 to 4 business days so I decided to call.
* Tuesday (4th Biz day / 6th Calendar day) - they said they were flooded with orders but have stock on hand and will ship mine out that day and send me the tracking number
* Today (Friday 7th business day / 9th Calendar day) morning: They said it went out yesterday (Thursday) but don't have a tracking number for me and will send me one in half an hour
* Later today (Friday 7th business day / 9th Calendar day) noon : I call them again to check on the status and they said it's shipped yesterday but still don't have a tracking number.
* Later today (Friday 7th business day / 9th Calendar day) evening : I get an email with tracking. Label was printed today and the today and it isn't picked up yet. Basically it's shipping today which is 7th business day from date of order (order was placed in first half of the day).

Basically they lied about everything, inventory, ETA, shipment status...everything.

Worse still, they were supposed to ship Canada Xpresspost and shipped UPS standard instead. Now I am worried that it will get stuck in customs and/or I will be charged some additional fees by UPS. I called again today to ask why they shipped UPS (package was still not picked up when I called) when I was assured Xpresspost when I placed the order! Got some stupid answer....problems with Xpresspost so used UPS, etc.! The sales guy said I will have it Monday. For me to receive it on Monday they would have to use UPS Express service, but the tracking on UPS website says it's "standard service" . Keeping my fingers crossed.

I wish Merkle's was a bit more honest and transparent about the whole situation. If they didn't have stock, they should have told me so and given me a fair ETA so that I would have acted accordingly.

Just wanted to share my experience so that others know what to expect.

I will post an update on whether I get the camera Monday.

P.S. The one I got from Henry's had a really bad sensor with about 16 hot/dead pixels or groups of pixels (not Henry's fault!). I returned it and asked for a refund since they didn't have stock. They were super with service except the refund was not issued as a normal paypal refund on the original transaction. Instead someone really stupid there initiated a separate paypal payment to me for the refund amount attracting paypal fees and netting me much lower. I am working it out with them and hope fully they will do it right Monday. We will see.

After everything, this is not working out to be as much of savings ordering cross border as I had originally thought. Just way too many hassles and I probably won't do it again.

^^^ wow, sorry to hear about all the issues you're having with Merkle and Henry's. I'd definitely be pissed about the Merkle situation. Hopefully you do get it Monday as promised, if not I'd call and raise hell.

Ordered mine from McBaine Camera in Edmonton on Sunday the 9th and received it on Friday the 14th, with Monday the 10th being a national holiday. I am quite happy with the service... and that was free shipping.

Just curious - how did you check for this? Is this something that was visible on the pictures? I was trying to check the one I got from Henrys and so far I haven't seen any issues.

Check the same way you check a new LCD monitor.

Look at an all black screen, then look at an all white screen.

Look for any stuck pixels; like a green dot on an all black screen.

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.

Put the lens cap on and select a 30 second to 1 minute exposure.

Then look at this file on your computer screen at 1:1 magnification.

Any hot pixels should come up as Red/Purple and the dead ones will show up as white. Sometimes the pixels are bad in groups and one could potentially see relative large (few pixels together) blotches as well.

Most sensors have these and are mapped out at the factory. Some fall through the cracks and show up later. A few of these spread out are not a problem as they can easily be mapped out.

But a large number of these, especially if in groups are a problem that could get worse in future.
