A little over exposed, but recoverable. If you have Photoshop, Lightroom or even DPP you can tone down the exposure and sharpen that image and you should have a great shot.

Not sure if this shot is same night as MysticBlue's, since the cloud cover and coloration are similar, but unless he/she's on vacation in central Florida they are certainly from different locations:

Here is a shot:

IMAGE: http://donkom.ca/potn/2240mm-moon.jpg
Taken with the EF 800mm F/5.6L + 2x extender II + 1.4x extender III on a 5D mark II

Close-up from that shot:
IMAGE: http://donkom.ca/potn/2240mm-moon-enlarged.jpg

Pretty awesome, eh? :)

I also played around with the same setup except with a 7D a few days later:
IMAGE: http://donkom.ca/potn/moon-800-2x-14x-7D.jpg

I wouldn't enlarge that one much... the 5D mark II performed better than the 7D, even though theoretically the 7D would have a higher pixel density and be able to see more detail. I believe this boils down to pixel size... the 7D photosites are simply too small and you lose clarity (circle of confusion / diffraction limiting stuff I suspect). It certainly was fun to play with!

Canon 5D mark II w/ WFT-E4 IIA, Canon EOS-1n, Canon 24-105mm F/4L IS, Canon 100-400L IS, Canon 50mm F/1.4, Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro, Canon 15mm F/2.8 Fisheye, Canon MP-E 65mm Macro, Speedlite 580EX II, MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite, and a black mitten

Not as impressive as most of the great images in here, but here is a recent one from me with my typical setup: E-P1, 70-200/4L w/2x Kenko tc and half-frame crop:

I'm actually impressed on how ell the E-P1 handled this scene at Iso 1600.

Halloween Moon, actually the night before. Very clear skies in Houston these recent nights, shadows and high lights on the crescent moon. I like that peak out on the tip of the lower horn.

The moon was pretty clear when I got home just now, so thought I'd have a quick crack...

Canon 7D with Canon EF-S 55-250mm f5.6 1/320

Pretty happy with that for a hand held shot with no extender. Next up is to borrow my old man's new Sigma 150-400mm and see what that bad boy will do with a moon shot.

Some photography gear no-one really cares about!
