I have the older Siggy 10-20 and love it! Have not used the Canon 10-22 but have read it is better w/ flare. One Euro mag (Practical Photography?) Did a review of the listed UWAs s year or two ago and gave the win to the Sigma for it's value and quality of build. IQ went to Canon.

Haven't used the Canon, but if price were not a factor that would probably be my first choice based on samples and reviews. I'm plenty happy with my Sigma 10-20, though. Stopped down it's a great UWA lens for the money!

Tokina 11- 16 - Fastest
Sigma 10 - 20 - Cheapest
Sigma 8 - 16 - Widest
Canon 10 - 22 - Longest

Remember that every mm means a lot on the wide end. there is a big difference between 10 and 11, and a huge difference between 8 and 11.

for the 7D there is no good UWA L...there are some good walk around L's(even then, there are other lenses that offer more bang for the buck)...but 16mm isn't ultra wide angle on a crop sensor...

+1 on the Tokina.. used it for a while and it's great lens but flares easily. The 2.8 is really nice for times when you need to handhold in low light.

Only reason I sold it is because it's not 100% FF compatible.

Canon 10-22 for me without question. Others are ok but the Canon is just perfect for a crop body.

Ditto, very usably sharp corner to corner, and I can also use it on the 1D4. Gives you more creative uses as well with f2.8 and closeups.

Thanks Everyone! All of your comments and suggestions were very informative and helpful! The 60+% in support of the 10-22 in conjunction with all the positive reviews have steered me in its direction. I just ordered the lens from Canon Refurbished...(4 min after the free shipping coupon timed out--oh well lol :P)
I will soon be a proud owner of a 10-22 & a contributor to the sample forum!

I vote for Tokina 11-16. Constant f/2.8 means that it's fast enough to handheld indoor or with natural light. That alone allow more creative possibilities. Excellent color and that's comparable to L lenses. Sharp sharp sharp. And built quality is just the best of all in the categaory. Weakness- flare control but it's there if you really shoot near the light source. I only have very very few pictures (may be 3-5%)with the problem. Another known weakness is distortion at 11mm tho it's easy to correct. Overall, this lens is excellent and I have to say I love it.

I'm eying the 16-35 F2.8L II for use on my 7D.

UWA is generally considered to be 24mm or wider on FF, or 15mm on your 7D. Personally, I would set the mark more at about 22mm (~14mm on crop).

16mm on a crop is equivalent to ~26mm, so by either definition would not be UWA.
