I still wonder what a mkII of this lens can offer over the current model. My copy is really sharp, creamy our of focus rendering, great constrast, stunning colours...it's like a prime lens, but it zooms too. Ok, an Image Stabiliser would be nice, but it's not really essential. The AF is already very fast and reliable...it's got great flare resistance too. Scratching my head really, any ideas? Paint it white?

I guess anything can be improved but for most ( me included ) its good enough. The only way I would even consider making the change is if they make it lighter or even make a F4 version with IS and optics like the 70-300L.

IMO its not even close, the 70-300L is much better. I wanted to love it but never felt impressed with it. Can't put my finger on what it was.

+1 on the 70-300L. I love that lens far more than my 24-70, which I have struggled with sharpness on for awhile now. Mostly since I got my 70-300 and realized what a sharp image looks like.

I would not go that far. The 24-70 is acceptable wide open and I find just going to 3.2 gives great results. But I do love the 70-300L and I think it produces much better results compared to the 24-105.

This is at 5.6 where it gets really sharp

Touche, I've been trying to shoot the 24-70 in the middle range more often so I'm not at 2.8 all the time, as I had gotten into the habit of.

Hey guys, I have a quick question.

Do you guys have hard time to focus using this lens in dark places?

I was doing some shots for my brother at home and I realize my lens had hard time locking on the focus. It hunts to focus. Some photos are also OOF as well.

My traded 24-105 never had this problem before.

On the 5d2 yes, sometimes.

But it seems better on the 7d, but will need to check that again at some point.

I shoot a wedding few weekends ago and realized most of the shots were taken wide open. They are razor sharp! I will post later some shots.
After many lenses and camera bodies, with 5d mk2 and 24-70, I am finally able to concentrate on the photo itself (composition, message, catching the moment) instead of technical aspect (focus, shutter, etc).
