I just picked up the 5D2. I think I got a pretty good deal. The seller gave me the receipt which shows he bought it 9/27/11. The camera strap and manuals where never even removed from their plastic, and it is in mint condition. It was a steal at $1900.

Now, should I use it for the shoot (non-paid) that I have Sunday, or should I use the 40D that I am comfortable with???

BTW, is the base iso 200 on the 5d2? It doesn't seem to go lower. I guess I better read the manual :)

Awesome. That the one on CL? I saw one there for 1900 yesterday or today, but didnt read the description.

ISO goes down to 100 and then down to 50 with ISO expansion. You probably don't have it set to change in 1/3 increments.

Yeah, it was on CL. It seems so small without a battery grip...I guess I need one of those now :)

I think I just reset all settings in the camera. Now I'll have to go through it and set it the way I like it. I hope I can get up to speed soon.

Regarding ISO though, why does ISO 100 require expansion? Does that mean I should be shooting at ISO 200 for best quality?

It's not ISO, there's a setting that requires ISO 200 and above only, but I forget what it is on the 5Dii. Expansion takes it down to 50 and up from its maximum..

Ah! Found it -- Highlight Recovery needs to be turned off.

From Ken Rockwell's 5Dii page..
I usually enable highlight recovery (Highlight Tone Priority), except in good light. I don't use this in good light because I can't shoot at any slower than at ISO 200 with it ON, and ISO 200 gives visible noise in the shadows.

I got it. I was finally able to reset everything back to factory settings. Now I'm going through all of the C.F. to set it the way I like.

Boy, the shutter sure sounds different from my 40D. I wonder if my wife will notice. I hope not. :(

I picked up my 5dmk2 for 1735 off ebay a while ago. maybe a year and a half ago? It was a pretty sweet deal and I knew I had to dump everything and pick it up.

I'm sure you can get a grey market body only for around 1500-1600 nowadays if you'd really want one cheap

I've had one for a long time now - just a habit I have to look on CL for stuff. Thanks for the heads up though.

So, nobody responded about getting together today, so let's just reschedule it for when it's more convenient for everyone.

When is a good time? Halloween night is not good for me.

I've had spotty internet service, the ills of being out of the house for over two weeks, staying at the in-laws. I was up for going out tonight but given your response 5 hours ago I can go another time. I might go out somewhere more local to me tonight.

I called around looking for your phone number, if you could PM that to me, it'd be good to have for future situations like this.

Hey, any of you guys have experience with or know of any models that are able to do last minute shoots? (As in later today) I've already tried MM and CL and figured I might as well try here.

Didn't they just replace those tracks? This must be why we can't have nice things!
