This is a long shot - but could the images be buried a couple of levels down in the folder(s) and perhaps your not "pointing" at the right thing to view? Alan's suggestion about the extensions being stripped off could be another possibility.

The photos were shot as smallest jpeg on Canon 7d.

I shot the photos... selected all the photos and then dragged them from the compact flash card to a folder in the Pictures folder on my laptop.


Gear:
Canon 5d MKII, Canon 40d, Canon 30d, Canon XTi
Canon 24-105 f4 L IS, 70-200 2.8 L, 85 1.8, 50 1.8, Tamron 28-75 2.8
(2) Canon 580 EXII Flash

The extensions are there and there aren't any folders... just the individual images.

Can you open them with DPP?

Are you sure these are JPGs and not sRAWs?

One thing you can do so we can check things out: take a photo that won't "work" and upload it to a site such as YouSendIt.com. You set your email as the "Recipient", upload it, and you will be emailed a notification with a link. If you post that link here, we can download the file and check it out.

It is free to use for one file at a time, and no sign-in is required!

Also, were the jpegs on the other CDs that were viewable also small jpegs from the 7D?
