Hello everyone,
I have a 50D right now which I love. I sold my backup camera a few months ago and I am thinking about upgrading and keeping my 50 as a backup. I do mostly newborn and children photography.

I am considering either the 7D, body only or the 5D Mark II, I did not know the Mark had HD video as well, Id love to know opinions if there is really a HUGE difference between the 50 and the 5D...pro's? con's???

Thanks so much!!!!!!

As you'll notice if you read more through the forum, there's a huge difference between both cameras.
7D is a crop body camera, similar to your 50D.
5D2 is a full frame camera body.

Crop body cameras are better suited for sports photography whilst the full frame camera aka the 5D2 is amazing for fashion, beauty, portrait, etc. :-)

Anyways, just a thought. Plus I actually don't even use the video option on my 5D2 and I've had it since it first came out. Never was sold on HD video. Oh wait, I know why, I'm a photographer not a videographer. ;) /sarcasm

Its been my experience noise rendering is much more pleasing on the mk ii than the 50. Color seems better also. The full frame really shines under low noise conditions, obviously, but dont discredit your cropper. Under controlled conditions, and low iso, they will produce excellent results. With that said, I use a 7d and my images are very good. Use the money saved and buy better glass, the old maxim holds true here. At least in my opinion.

Thank you both, I need to give it some thought :) I thought of investing in a prime lens, but I have the ones I need, I know I need another camera, Im nervous scheduling so many sessions with just one, something can always go wrong and stop working :(
I had my head on the Mark II for a while, I just need more convincing so I am going to read some of the posts here ;)
Thanks!

If you make any kind of money shooting portraits go for 5DII. You will not regret

Both cameras take great pictures. However, it looks like you are more into portraiture which the 5DII is tailored to. The 7D can take outstanding portraits as well, you just may spend more time post-processing to get the same or near quality as you would with a 5DII.

I'd let your lenses decide. If you have a lot of EF-S lenses, they won't work with the 5DII. For portraits I'd like the 5Dii, but I'm pretty thrilled with my 7D. It is a great all around camera.

RPcrpwe leaves no question to anyone's mind. Clearly that kind of work proves how unsuited a APSc sensor is for anything. Gosh I would hate to be caught using a 35mm crop when the big boys shoot on MFD....

And rp, those are really beautiful. What lens did you have on your 7D?

Nice, but without a comparison to the full frame this doesn't tell us much...

If you like to spend a lot of time in front of a computer cursing the fact that you have to do a lot pp and making compromises with your 7D images, then buy a 7D. If you prefer to shoot and have images that are better OOC and more malleable, get a 5DII.

Bold statements, maybe some exaggeration but I shot both 7D + 5DII so I could compare and, although I didn't bother wasting time doing A/B comparisons, it was obvious, coming back from a shoot which one produced the better images more consistently.

I replaced the 7D with a second 5DII.

PS: The most common phrase I hear around the 7D is "needs a bit of NR".

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
