Studio/Portrait/Street shooting: 5DMII or 1DsMII?

I'm looking for a second body, and I need a camera that excels in portraits on a studio setting while also very good for street shooting. Skin tone and dynamic range are also a big deal to me.


Which body would you recommend, the 5DMII or 1DSMII?

Go for a 5DM2. a 1DSMII is more for sports IMHO.

They are both wonderful, but I am partial to the 1series cameras, so I say the 1dsii will suit you best overall.

For studio, subjects don't move much so I'd go for the 5d mkii.

For studio work, the 5d mark II will be better!

The 1DSmk3 is obviously a better camera for what you list, but the price tag which comes along with it may make it unsat for you.

Ya know what's funny? The s in Ds stands for studio.

At least when a mugger tries to take your camera, with the 1D series you have a legitimate weapon to fight them off with.

The OP is asking about the 1Ds Mark II, not the Mark III. Used copies of the 2004 Mark II are about the same price as a new 5DII.

I'd definitely go with 5D Mark II.... It's much more suitable as a street camera.... Both would be quite viable as studio and portrait cameras, but 5DII still wins for a number of reasons... As a 2008 model, it's a couple generations newer and a lot more up-to-date.
