I'd love to critique on portraits (since I do quite a lot of them and love helping everyone out), but I'm afraid some might take critique badly (specially new people who don't know me).

I don't like simply saying ''Nice shot''... It doesn't help anybody here. Tell us why you find it nice. But specially, tells us what you dislike, what we should improve next time.

This said, was that shot taken with the 30mm Bryant?

Lol, was that directed to me David? I like that shot/look because it draws my eyes to the photo more. Makes it feel a bit special at least to me. Besides, it's my girlfriend! As much as she hates me spending money on my new hobby, we do take the time to go out and shoot together (mostly with her as my model).

And yes, that's the 30mm. I do want to get a more wider lens now though. Wish i can afford going to a full frame system but it's quite impossible at the moment. So maybe after buying a EF-S 55-250mm, i'll consider picking up a 24mm 2.8 canon OR if i'm that desperate, save up for a 24mm L. But maybe you guys can help me out. I shoot alot of portrait/still life. I LOVE the look that full frame gives but like i said i can't afford it. What lenses would you guys possibly recommend on a crop to give me that similar look of a full frame? Or would i have to suck it up and save up on a 5Dc..

I posted a thread about it a min ago, but hey can't hurt to ask here as well. I'm trying to improve myself as best as I could and would like to participate more on here :) Overall, i guess i can't be doing that bad? Only 4 months or so with a first time DSLR..

Too much questions in that post :p

I don't said I didn't like your picture, it was a of asking permission to give constructive critique. Some people in this thread take critique badly (in the first 60D thread iirc), we must be careful now ;)

I knew it was your 30mm since the brick wall is a tad curved. Bricks don't generally curve, but barrel distortion does. Often, a simple lens correction profile corrects that. Do you have Lightroom? If so, it's an easy fix!

If you're all in for portraits, personnaly, I would recommend a 5Dc over the 60D. Even if it's older technology, a FF sensor really does wonder to portraits (and wide landscape).

But it's not because we are all shooting crop that are portraits are worse. a good example here is Corey (and Lemonscent recently), they both posted remarkable portraits. Usually done with primes (for best subject isolation), someone who knows how photography works (specially the relation between focal length / subject / background distance) can make wonders on any camera.

This said, how do you like your Rokinon 85mm? If I was shooting crop only, for portraits I'd get the Sigma 85mm in a heartbeat.

The brick wall actually does curve. So it's not necessarily the lens itself. It's kinda long and curves around the trees in the background. I bought the 60D since i do a bit of video work from time to time. But since i've been moving more to photography over video, makes me wish i bought a 5DC now lol. I love my rokinon 85mm but it's a bit difficult to shoot with since it's fully manual. So even if i shoot at the widest end, I have to be very still to not miss that shallow depth of field.

As for critique, i'm open for it. As long as it's not a "it sucks" and that's it, i'm okay with it.

As for the siggy 85mm..why can't money like that grow on trees!

Since you're open to critique, here's a quick one (It's my own opinion, it doesn't necessary reflect the one of others here)!

For a pose like that, I would a given just a bit more room around her, simple a step or two backward. I would also have her lower her left shoulder a bit. For three reasons:

1. It makes her look closed, protecting her (or mad at you?).
2. The tattoo draws a lot of attention instead of her whole body
3. The legs placed like these makes for a little sexy/sensual pose. But her left shoulder showing her back is blocking that feeling. Have her lower it, it'll hide the tattoo (and the shirt strap) and will show a tad bit of cleavage. The pose will look a lot better, more balanced.

As for pp, I won't judge since I'm rarely a fan of that de-constrasted look. But others might love it ;)

Between, if I take time to critique your shot, it's because I like it and there is potential ;)

Ah, i understand what you're saying. Thanks alot :) Although, for the tattoo part it did confuse me. Lol, it's the lace parts of the back of her shirt. Nice to see that it gave that "illusion" though ahha.

I'm still working at directing and such but it seems like i still got a ways to go. As for stepping back and shooting wider.. the wall had letters on them. I didn't want to get the park letters in the picture. Felt that it would've ruined the photo so i tried to get closer instead.

If there was intrusive letters, glad you made your best to hide them. For the tattoo part, I'm saying that when looking at the picture, it draws your eye to it instead of her whole body. If it was the goal, it worked well (since it's right beside her face), but I personally would have hide it, to keep on the sexyness look, without our ye stopping by to try to see what the tattoo is about.

And I agree, the hardest part for me is to direct subject, as I'm not shooting models but generally people who have never made a photoshoot before ;)

bought my 50mm 1.4 today, unfortunately i lost the Sigma lottery XD

both copies they had at the store was front focusing, the copy i ended up with i can take 5 exact shots with exact amount of FF, so off it goes for calibration with the 60D! shop i got it from guy was a top bloke tho he said he'll try to get it back to me within a few days

in some ways i am actually happy that it very consistently front focused the way it did, at least it's not erratic AF like i've read in a few reviews and i know that once it is calibrated it will be perfect :)

Does anyone know if theres a back-to-front monopod on the market?

I have a GoPro camera, and want to use the monopod to hold the camera out at a length away from my body. A standard monopod does not fulfill this.
