Anyone actually regret moving from 7D to a 5Dm2?

Wait for 5D III or pick up D700. Simply 5D II is not my kind of camera, I've sold it in 3 month, it has Fisher Price AF .

Nikon/Fuji.

+ 1 on the D700. 5D IQ with a better than 7D AF system.

These cameras complement each other quite well. I don't do fast moving stuff very often, so if I was forced into a single camera it would be the 5D2. With significantly larger pixels, the 5D2 is more forgiving of how well the image is focused. Don't loose sight of quality EF glass being considerably more expensive...

As for waiting until the 5D2's replacement comes along... well that could take a while and it will cost a fair bit. My guess is that Canon will not mention another full-frame camera until a couple of months after the London Olympics - so you might hear an announcement in September 2012... with delivery starting in November. I don't see it costing less than the original price of the 5D2 ($3400).

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Like most of the others here, I bought a 5D2 after owning a 7D for a year and I now read for the 5D2 when I'm going out. The biggest thing I wish the 5D had was the focusing system, but it hasn't stopped me from getting any shots. As for build quality, They feel the same to me. The only time they feel any different is when I open the battery door or the CF door and the spring pops it open. It's nice, but doesn't warrant saying the 7D has better build quality. Actually the eyepiece on my 7D is very loose and I encounter that every time I bring the camera to my eye. The 5D eyepiece is solid, so maybe I should say it has better build quality? No, they are about equal in my book.

The biggest difference I see is IQ. The 5D2 is just better. I agree with what I had read before hand that it is a good 1 stop better at higher ISO's. Where I feel the 7D is solid at 1600 and capable at 3200 and 6400, I feel the 5D2 is solid at 3200.

Randy98MTU, the other HUGE difference is 7D (crop) vs 5D (full frame). ;) As for AF, that is probably one of the reasons I am going to go to a 1DX come March. I love my 5D2, but a 1DX will be a nice addition.

Eyepieces are separately manufactured items and really don't play into the "camera build" discussion. You could get 10 different eyepieces and have a wide range of play to virtually no play. Not a body thing, just differences in eye piece molds.

The 7D will withstand more varying weather conditions than the 5D2 will. There are numerous topics on this where both were shot in very harsh conditions. Weather sealing is better on the 7D, but as to overall build quality, they are quite similar.

What is it exactly about the AF system? Aside from the points, is it sheer speed, accuracy, or what? Low light focusing?

Why do you need the 19 AF points on a 7d if you use single point focus and recompose? Do those with a 7D use the auto feature where the camera pics your focus points?

Are you using the back button AF, AI Servo and continuous drive mode? Everyone complains about it but I've never had any problems.

I've run a lot of tests the last couple of days with my 7D. This is what I've found:

Don't shoot in AV mode. The camera tends to choose high / strange ISO values and /or slow shutter speeds.

You're better off shooting in Manual mode and determining your own ISO value and shutter speed. Of course, the 7D excels in the 100-800 ISO range. You can get get results in 1600-3200, but you have to really nail your exposure and your focus! This isn't a bad thing, but it does keep you on your toes and you'll end up rejecting a lot of your shots.

Basically, I've found that this camera isn't very forgiving, though it is capable of superb results. Be mindful of your light and try and overexpose your images 1/3 or 1/2 stop, keeping your histogram to the right and bring your exposure back down in PP and use a little sharpening and NR and you'll get really great results!

I'm keeping this camera because it's making me a better photographer. I'm really having to stay on my toes and get good exposures before PP. Plus its built like a tank! But that's not stopping me from going FF next year...

I went from a 7D to a 5D2.

I don't regret the move. I kept my 7D for a while, but since it wasn't getting any use I sold it.

one of the bigger reasons I moved from the XS with it's whopping 7 points to the 7D

I really like post on harcosparky when he said he is not a fan of waiting for new equipment. It's so true.
I lot of really good photographer just go out get full sensor camera put good prime lens on top and spend the rest of their energy on developing their style, photoshop etc..

However 5D Mark III should be coming out in 2012.. so it's a tuff call ..
