OK what do you think about 24-105mm f/4L IS USM ? Personally I think Mikey would get more use out of it, but he has WA on his list. How is it on resale-- more popular?r

By far my most used lens. It is a fantastic focal length for all round use with a full frame sensor. Not as heavy being and f/4 lens too. Great IQ.

The best part about it is that we don't have to leave him to go home and wait to see him until the next day.

No worries, Betsy can handle it, she has had plenty of practice with you. Alexander will be a piece of cake after that.

Good lens, Wu, but not nearly as wide as a 17-40. It sounds like a decision needs to be made regarding what the primary use of the lens is going to be. Some of the third-party recommendations made earlier are good, too.

I wouldn't be too influenced by resale. Rule of thumb: Canon lenses will probably hold their value a little better, but not enough to be a major factor in any decision to purchase.

Tamron put a new version of their 24-75 2.8 with IS out about a year ago that is supposed to be quite good. I think it runs in the $800 range.

I have both 24-105 and the 17-40....can't go wrong with either of them....if you are looking wide....the 17-40 is certainly a good choice...the 10-22 is in the budget range too....should you be looking to really go wide. Resale value holds up well on all 3.

Hi Sweet Zane and all the rest. Thanks for the tips. sadly the lens isn't for me-- why I asked about its popularity and resale value. Want him to be able to unload it easily if it isn't what he wants.

All you east coasters need to be working your mojo to help me get this Nashville job. I'd be close enough I could visit on occasion. May be applying for one at HQ. Keep your fingers crossed or what ever it is you do, that I find a job out that way. Looks like the Portland job is already filled. Who knows- people may just be accepting hoping something else comes along...
