Old Film Cameras- Anyone still buy them?

I have a number of film cameras, mostly Minolta, ranging from an X700 of the late 70's to a Maxxum 600si, and various lenses. My general question here is, is there any market for old film cameras or would it be a better use of my time to just donate them all to a thrift store and be done with it?

There's a market for them if you find the right buyer. I was talking a graphics artist I met last week and he has 20-30 old film cameras on shelves in his office that he collects. He said he was looking for some more but I don't recall which ones he was looking for. I'm sure there are more people like him.

You can try a craigslist ad, but film camera, particularly minoltas (sorry), dont have a lot of value. A few canon and nikon camera's still have some collectibility, but even that has limited appeal anymore. If any of the minolta lenses are AF, you might have something there as they may fit the sony dslrs.

Older lenses are making a come back because people are adapting them to their mirrorless system.

Take a peek over at Rangefinder Forum, lots of film shooters there so you may have better luck.

If you have a pretty good conditioned working minolta hi-matic 7s II or a hi- matic 9 and for a really reasonable price i might be interested :). Out of the three in my signature, I have a few more as well so i am in that niche market of buying old film cameras!

So what is hot?

I have an Olympus OM10, FD, and a few film EOS bodies. Mostly acting as shelf ornaments.

I sell a lot of AE-1 Program cameras and Nikon F bodies... I just unloaded a Agfa Super Isolette medium format camera and a Graflex large format camera. There are a lot of manual focus lenses that are popular, you just have to do a little research to see what people are wanting and what the will pay. I have had good luck with the store re-branded Mamiya and Yashica 35mm cameras.

why wouldn't you get an EOS film body just to be able to use the same lenses on your DSLR?

for the o.p. or anyone else...just do a completed listings search on ebay to see what the value is of whatever old camera/lens you've got lying around, and decide if it's worth the hassle or not
