I've gone back and forth with this image and would like to hear/see what all of you would do with it, if anything. Thanks in advance!

Good question. I would keep three crops of this in the end.

First, the one you have but in 9x16 ratio.

Second, the QB and one pursuer only, tight center crop, portrait.

Third, landscape QB camera left and the pursuit at right with the ball in the air.

Good capture.

Cut it down to just QB...would not be a typical as he is pitching it rather than throwing so may look a bit different. Cutting off the receiver of the pitch out loses the intent of the play...it happens!. I take it you posted the full uncropped picture.

Yes, this is the un-cropped image.

I would lose the two guys on the right plus a little off the top but keep the QP, the guy coming from behind and the intended receiver.

Thanks Dan.

Maybe I should have made this a poll....so far, everyone has a different suggestion! :) I know there probably isn't one correct answer, but it's interesting to see people's ideas. Keep them coming!

To me Dwane, it would be a delete. What are the next couple of frames?

Thanks Chris, I've thought about that too. The next couple, must have been OOF or something because I deleted them. The next shot that I have of this play is this shot...

i'd be interested in just the qb and defender; qb's expression looks great, defender's face looks eager, and unknown of where the pitch is headed could add to the tension...so crop both guys on right and #30 on left; love to see what that looks like. great sharpness, colors, faces and ball.

Thanks Rich. When I get the chance, hopefully tonight, I'll throw a couple crops up based on what's been brought up so far.

Alright, so here's the 4 crops that people mentioned...

9x16

Well obviously I think the one I suggested is the best ;)
Opinions are of course subjective but to me the 3 and 4th image lose some context. Without the intended receiver it rather looks like the QB is just throwing away the ball (instead of passing) as the defence come charging in on him.

Just so happens I want to ask a similar question so everyone can play the crop game again.... https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=13378854#post13378854

If you're going to keep it the onlyone that works for me is the first one ---- the 9x16 semi-panorama. However the 1st thing I'd do would be to straighten it --- it isn't off much but it's noticable.

the cropping to the left and keeping just the QB and receiver is the best i think. it shows the play and tells more of a story rather than a tight crop on just the QB
