Since the season is over for my team, so is my internship. I would still like to work with the team next year and I'm going to the home office tomorrow. I would like to talk to them about getting on board. If they ask, how much should I ask them for? What do team photographers normally make in a year? I know this year, only two PR reps traveled with the team. So I'm looking at only home games and special events.

Is 25-30 too much to ask for?

Thanks!

Yea, is that reasonable to ask?

+1 on this.
Why would they pay you $25-30K, when they can get someone like you, or you again, to do it for them for FREE.

This is one of the best responses I have ever read on this forum.

25-30k for a full time job that requires years of skill to obtain? I wouldn't even talk with out 30k+, full benefits, and equipment fund. That may change if they keep full rights of the images.

I'm not sure it'd be a full time job. Brian, what hours are you expecting to fulfill? Ask for an hourly wage, not a yearly salary. Remember that your pay (if you get hired) will be determined by supply and demand. I'm going to assume that there are many people out their hoping to "intern" (work for free) just like you did this past season... That is going to severely cut into your chances of being hired let alone being given a living wage.

Only thing that could have made this better is to have asked this on the SS forum. Brian, do yourself a favor and read some of the material that is posted at the site you are so proud to be a member of.

I'd pop a special bag of popcorn for that event.

You mention that only 2 PR reps travel with the team...PR stands for Public Relations - YOU want to be one of , or THE team PHOTOGRAPHER. Totally DIFFERENT job!

If you want to be the, or one of the team's PAID STAFF photographers, why wouldn't you go on the road trips with them?

Also, I don't know how things there work, but I would think that they'd have a set salary/wage structure already in place for their team STAFF photographer(s).

Has the team given you any indication whatsoever during this past season about what they plan to do with you for next season?

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)
