Yeah I think you are right. I met a guy in a park using one and he let me try it (while he tried my 70-300L) and that copy was perfect too. Almost as easy as focusing the C/y Zeiss 28 F2.8 (easiest focusing MF lens ever).

Mine seems to be spot on with the focus confirm (although I don't live by it). Sorry you're having an issue.

It's easier to return it and get another copy. No sense in going through all that hassle to MA it. :)

Thanks Jdizzle, I called B+H and the guy (who was suprisingly knowledgable) says this is the only issue they ever seem to have (and these are even rare) with Zeiss lenses, meaning that mechanical failures are virtually unheard of.

They are paying for the return shipping and will overnite me the new lens once the old one arrives. good customer service in my book!

Oh, you're using focus confirm. I think most people find that this function is only really good for getting approximate focus (with enough Depth of Field to cover error) not critical focus. Shooting at close distances wide open will only expose how inaccurate Focus Confirm can be.

Unfortunately I have a 7D which is not the best for mf lenses but excellent in many other ways. The af confirm in my Canon FL 55mm f1.2 is spot on so as long as Zeiss can match the accuracy of an aftermarket adapted 40 year-old lens I will be happy. :)

Link to the Canon FL 55mm page.

Yup - I reported this issue with my 1Ds III around a week ago. I was able to adjust the focus using the MA feature.

So I am torn, though it is working perfectly now, if I should seek a replacement? Were it not working, obviously I would. Bu the adjustment is within limits and the results are just fine.

As others have stated, the green confirmation lite is secondary to really being in focus, but it is useful.

Just thinking out loud.

I returned the lens to ACE Camera (via Amazon) for refund. I also have been in touch with Zeiss who will inspect the lens when they have received it.

I wish I could report the same treatment as dadgummit received from B&H. That is, they paid for return postage and are overnighting him a new lens. ACE simply sent me a terse one line email with an RMA number , they did not even include a shipping address or any instructions whatsoever.

I wanted to order from B&H but at that exact moment they were closed for an extended holiday so I rolled the dice. I'll not make that mistake again, B&H is always a pleasure.

So once the credit is issued, and it was ACE's choice to do so claiming the lens is back ordered, I will likely use a local store so I can validate the lens before I walk out the door.

You ordered from the same place I did and for the same reason. I actually talked to ACE on the phone a couple of times. I highly suspect ACE is an extra bedroom with several lenses sitting in it.

Nice, the shutter speed seems to be just nice to give the effect.
