I am not brand specific but shoot canon with my dslr's. I have an older casio exslim that has run its course.

I want something that can deliver quality pictures for computer/email with the occasional print up to 8x10

-something with HD video

-8x or more optical zoom

-having RAW is a plus but not really necessary.

-doesnt lag for a half hour between pressing shutter button and taking the picture.

-Slim and pocket sized.

-price up to $200-250

Thanks!

If you can go the extra 50 you can pick up an S95 but that may be a little big for you.
I have an elph 300hs and feel it's a decent camera. I think it would suit your needs.

Canon 310HS has 8x zoom and $230, does not have RAW though. The 510HS has 12x zoom and costs more, not sure what other differences. The 100HS or 300HS only have 4 or 5x zoom. HS is "high sensitivity" they have CMOS sensors now, good IQ. Looking at getting my parents a 100HS for xmas.

I prefer the 300 over the 100. The control buttons on the 100 are small and are to use, for me anyway. I had one a returned it for the 300. The 100 has a bigger LCD (3" vs. 2.7"), but to me that is not an issue. I wrote a quick review that is someplace in this section.

Good luck withyour selection.

Jim

In my opinion, the Sony WX10 could fit the bill, bending the zoom requisite down to x7.
It's a very nice compact camera with not-too-shabby image quality, and other nice features,
such as the excellent sweep panorama.
The new ELPH 310 also looks like it could suit your needs,
at least on paper, with a 28mm lens, a x8 zoom, and Canon's
new CMOS sensor, and a very (very!) small body - just like the
tiny ELPH 300. However, I don't know this specific model in person.
