For what I use the DP2 for, it's almost perfect. The seemingly clunky operation is fine for me - I don't try to use it as an action camera. There is just something about the noise of the Foveon that looks perfectly akin to film grain that I love. To me the high iso Foveon files are beautify because of this. The X100 high iso noise, while very minimal, looks likes digital noise to me.

One of the biggest hangups for me is that the DP2 pushed to it's limit in a dim room (3200 iso, 1/40th, 2.8) it can't focus. So while I might have the ability to get the frame I need, I can't focus the thing at all making it unusable. I know for the purpose of trail hiking, the DP2 is my dream camera. Small, light, excellent outdoors, and just plain beautiful color and details.

I'm hoping I can grow into the x100 and learn to love it for what it is, but as many others have stated it's not perfect.

I strongly suggest you check out Samsung. My NX100/30mm combo cost less than $400 and, when processed through ACR, does exactly what you liked about the DP2 in regards to "filmy" noise. Nowhere near the high-ISO quality of the X100, but the noise is fairly pleasing as long as you don't mind the fact that it exists. AF is definitely not super-fast though (I do hear that other lenses are significantly better).

Well, I've had my x100 for about a week. I haven't had much time to play with it, but here's one from the other day. 580exII off camera bounced off the ceiling. 1/500th ss. Wide open sooc. Pretty sharp!

It's looking no smaller than APS-C and possibly APS-H. APS-H would be ever so nice!

Are you using your 580 on top of your fuji or is it connected to PW?

The flash is off camera. Triggered by rf-602's. The same triggers I use for my 5d. I'm really glad they work with the x100. Sync speeds up to 1/1000th is pretty amazing. I haven't tried using the flash on camera, and I don't intend to. I'm not sure if it's safe or not.

This picture was also shot using the 580 off camera, but this time I used a shoot through umbrella. 1/500th ss again.
