Just a heads up for anyone who is looking for Canon lenses. Lensrentals.com has a bunch of used Canon lenses at good prices for sale. I am not affiliated with them in any way but I do use them a lot and can't say enough about their customer service.

Lensrentals is probably the best and cheapest place to rent a lens before you buy. As stated before, great customer service. BTW, didn't Cab Calloway say it (BBB) before David Lee Roth, or am I showing my age?

I've never paid taxes but then I don't live in NJ or NY.

Not bad. Prices seem to be similar to the different buy & sell boards, although without the ability to negotiate.

I wonder if they offer a "rent for 4 days", then get that price discounted off a used lens if you decide to buy :D

Yes, they deduct the rental price off purchase as long as you buy within 6 months of the rental.

How reliable are these used lenses? Seems scary to think that maybe 100 or more people used the lens before you.

Yeah, the prices aren't low enough to get me to take a gamble on these. Same reason why I would never buy a used car from a rental company.

Read the test reports! They test every lens. Some are weak, some are average and some are VERY sharp! Some of them are as good or better than the average new lens, in terms of image and mechanicals. Personally, I'd MUCH rather have a TESTED, known, GREAT lens than a new lens which can easily be a weaker copy.

I'll let you know how happy I am with the 100-400mm L i just picked up for $1170.....it was an incredibly sharp 22/22 copy, with great imaging and mechanicals. A couple of small paint knicks saved me $500 and I KNOW it's a sharp copy. I wouldn't have a clue how sharp that new lens is, sitting in the box on the shelf.

The owner is a member here. Of all the copies to get, one which has a maintenance record which I could return would be very high on my list.
