Hello everyone!!!

I'm back from two weeks of vacation and all of you have too many great pictures to see, I'm still going through the pictures but I leave you three time-lapses, two cut short because of the rain, and one of the milky way, I think the milky way was potential but with my editing skills I can't make the milky way to pop but I know it's there, I could literally see it with my own eyes... I tried DSS but no luck, I have about 800 milky way pictures, all about 25 second exposures.

That's what I was aiming for. I like that one.

Geez it's such a great image on it's own that the possibilities on editing are endless. I used Lightroom and have many hundreds of presets I've purchased and accumulated over the years and many of them will work with this image giving it a different feel.

Here's one version using SaraJiPreset called OrangeGarden:

Not a fan of the cut elbows but the quality of this pic is excellent. Love the lighting sharpness real nice job. I'm attempting to get such quality for a while and I was actually looking in to strobes. Do you mind telling me what kind of equipment you are using for strobes. I knew that the t2i had this and probably more potential I just seem to be unhappy with what I get with my 2YN560 and 430exII. Great flashes don't get me wrong but I just feel I need more power for a studio photoshoot.

Great job and hope to hear from you
DT

Hi DT,
thanks for the comment. I used Alienbee 400 and 800 for the event. I also have YN and Canon speedlite. Reason I am using Strobes are for instant recyle time. You can also get same result with speedlight using softbox but the key is Lastolite Hilite backdrop. Check out Youtube for product video. Really simple. You can also check out my website cocunaphoto.com (external link) for photos taken during the event (second set). I used two camera T2i with kit lens and 5D2 with 24-70. Results are very similar, can't really tell the difference between the two by looking at the Flickr posting. Proper lighting makes a world of difference. And reason for cutoff elbow is because photos were used to print magazine overlay for 4x6 prints while they waited and had to do a fast crop. Well that's my excuse anyway.

Thanks everyone for taking a crack at it, I do like it how I shot it and that's why I edited it the way I did. I think that it came out great but I have an idea in my mind that it might look great with a hazy filter like this...

HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by FLICKR

hazy wednesday. (day 5/365) (external link) by DaveyMorr (external link), on Flickr

I know there are better examples than that but it was what I came up with quickly. I got frustrated trying to recreate that in lightroom and wanted to ask for help on how to achieve that look but then I started thinking that maybe this would be better to just let everyone else take a hack at it and see if there were better ideas than what was in my head. You guys are awesome, I'd love to see more if anyone else wants to try.

Would be difficult to impossible to duplicate that look in LR3. I'm pretty sure he layered a texture to that photo... CS5 could do the job quite easily though... He also did a polaroid type pp to it...

Here's that HDR I said I was going to try out. Used Lightroom Enfuse to blend 3 copies of the same image at different exposures. I don't do too much HDR but I wanted to give it a shot, different look but still pretty awesome.

Besides the explosion of light, and color artifacts around the streetlamp....this picture is awesome!

Yeah I'm still learning lightroom a bit, I'd love to be able to get rid of that without underexposing the picture. Can't do a gradient because its just a few areas and if I burn it, it just looks strange. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like the colors, but I also agree with Rolfe. Never used enfuse so don't know how that works...I have photomatix, but I haven't attempted an HDR for a couple of months...Just kind of lost interest in it...I think the most precise way would be to blend in CS5 and mask out what you need to. Anyway this scene has a lot of potential. Great job!
