Not positive but I think last year the balloon night was the last night. I recall looking for a parking spot for about 45 minutes and getting stuck in traffic for and hour trying to leave.

I thumbed thru the new AZ Highways at the store

"50 BEST Photos".... more like "ode to medium and large format", with a few digital sprinkled it.

meh, saved my money..

might buy at wall calendar in late Dec when Costco puts it on clearance for $3

Thanks guys... it was a busy weekend, so I was happy to have gotten a few shots. Definitely on my wish list to go for a re-visit. I'd love to tour through the redwoods up there and hit Bodega Bay on the way. So much to see. :)

I bought a copy. Thumbed through it, added it my library AKA pile of stuff that attracts dust. (I guess that pages 8 and 9 appeal to you, in particular, Stormin.)

While most of the photographs were taken using 4" x 5" and larger media, some are noted as 35mm or digital. That leaves me with a ray of hope as a small format digital shooter.

I have Canon gear. SX1 IS, two 7D bodies and mostly f/2.8 lenses 10mm-200mm, doubler, and 17/4 TSE, some 580EX IIs. Additional portable lighting gear, and tripod with 360 pano mount. Want two 7D II bodies.

I have a star question. Where is a good location to head to away from South Phoenix to see the stars and milky way really good? I went to Bartlett Lake last night and it was a lot better than here but their was still a lot of light pollution. Would Canyon Lake of Apache Lake area be better or do I need to head farther East?

Thanks.

hmmmm I think we went to Canyon Lake as a group once.... I forget which lake we were at.. but I think it was either Canyon or Saguaro... anyone remember?

How about going up to the rim for a night? Is that an option?

Check with Mike.. aka Macroshooter.. he is the pro when it comes to shooting stars/star trails... I bet he can give you some great reccomendations. :)

I think any of the Rim lakes would be great, point NE away from the Valley.... though it is late in the season and you might only be able to get into Willow Springs now.

oops, I just re-read your post.. WOULD Canyon Lake.. still not far enough away... I shot some at Roosevelt toward the NE and still got yellowish contamination

How about out on 89A by Jerome area in the forest? I am just not able to get to the GC right now, and with the snow that they are having I would get stuck with my car. Just looking for a better area around that will not be so bright. Hopefully next year I will be able to get up to the Grand Canyon.

Nice shot!

Pretty sure the Star Trails outing was to Fish Creek Hill out past Tortilla Flats on the Apache Trail.

2nd shot with my wife at Miranda and Alen's wedding at The Clayton in Scottsdale AZ.

Awesome couple, Rockin' party, very intimate group. They were to be wed on the grass surrounded by fountains at Scottsdale Civic Center, but it started drizzling right before, so the venue was able to accommodate everything inside.

Here are a few collages of my shots (my wife is the pro!)
