If anyone is looking to pick up a used lens, LensRentals.com has 10% off on their entire inventory on Thursday and Black Friday:

Anyone ever buy from them to see how conservative they are on their ratings?
Their prices seem mediocre for items that could be heavily used by many people. The 10% off might just make it worth it though.

Any thoughts?

I purchased my 35L through them - flawless... paid under $1100 for it - described perfectly, came next day air, with the Canon bag, etc. I'm considering another purchase Thursday just because I've never had an issue with them, including thousands of dollars of rentals.

I have not purchased from them, but they buy their lenses new and rent them for 2 years before selling them, so they may not be any more used than a lens you buy off our classifieds.

I've purchased from them before. Twice in fact. My 100-400L was a great copy (they test their resolution before putting them on sale). My Velbo tripod is great too. 3 day return policy, 90 day warranty. I would buy from then again.

After trying to search on the net and wrap my brain around the concept of how the sharpness is rated, I am still not getting it and I hope you experts will be able to help me here.

Would you expect there to be a visible difference between a photo taken with a "20/20 line pairs/mm" lens vs an "18/18" or "18/20" one? If you compared photos not sharpened in PP, would this be a difference that you can only see in 100% crop? Or not even that?

In other words, how much attention should I pay to the "20/20", "18/18" and "18/20" designations when choosing a lens?

I have never had a bad experience with LR.

I would not hesitate to purchase from them.

Good luck to all!

I bought my 70-200 from them for less money then I could find it anywhere else. I also rent the big stuff from them too. All their stuff is perfect looking all the time.
