I saw that. The product photo shows the rounded pins. Can you confirm the one you got from them has the pointed pins?

Possibly not. I bookmarked that that page from one of the threads here. I checked my records and this is the number I called when I ordered. I did not even has to ask for the pointy pins and I got them.

Canon USA parts 1-866-481-2569

I assumed the link was the same place but the phone numbers are different. Sorry about that.

The link is for USA Camera. They have nothing to do with Canon USA.

If your 580EX II is still on warranty, just send it in to Canon for service, and complain about bad connections, or overexposed photos. They will send it back with the new "pointy" contacts for free.

Sort of a "Secret Warranty".

I just spoke to Canon about my 4 year old 580EX II. They won't repair it for free, but they will sell me a replacement part. The old Canon part number is CY2-4220, but the new "Pointy Contact" replacement part is CY2-4220-020

In Canda they want $63.76 plus tax.

I had this happen to me during a wedding I was shooting, sent it to Canon for repair and as part of the Canon CPS Gold membership, the bill for the repair was $82.00 which included shipping back to me.

For the OP .Just to point out it does not come in all the pieces on the right side of the diagram. It is one piece on the left - 4 screws. Thanks for the part number. I'll keep that for next time. Canon Canada does not have it's own parts devision for consumers so they gave me a number to a place in Toronto. They were quite confused and emailed me pages of drawings. I did not want to take a chance on getting the old ones so I ordered from Canon USA parts. They knew right away what I needed.

One of my 580EX IIs took a very slight spill and the foot broke off. In my search for a fix I found this post which details how one person went about fixing the loose connection. May or may not work, but it's a fairly easy DIY for 0 cost if it actually works.
