Used all of the 200mm. Surely not enough for birds. I don't really shoot birds too often, but ordered the EF 1.4X III.

Thats a real bummer, Rick. I broke my first one a couple of years ago...tripod fell over due to my own carelessness...on turf not concrete but it still broke. Fortunately my insurance coughed up for a new one, so I dismantled the old one to see where it broke...there's a section in the body that is like three segments running longitudinally where the two main sections are bolted together...one leg broke and is unrepairable.

Fortunately the camera was okay...maybe the plastic body of the lens breaking acted like a shock absorber...something had to give!

I hope you can replace yours soon...it does excellent work for you!

Last I knew, the EF 70-200 f4 L IS was a metal body. ???

Nope! A bit of both! And none the worse for that, usually.

You are absolutely right, and I have a bit of broken plastic to prove it!

Thanks Rick...yes it was dramatic...I understood why they kept it a quiet afternoon and didn't go out to sea!
