Would you make this swap?

I love my 135L and I love my 70-300L. Nothing wrong with them, great results, both brand new and hardly used, etc etc. There is no real reason to do it but it's an option and my brain weighs them all......

Sell the 135L and 70-300L and buy a 70-200 2.8 IS II.....

The 300 really isn't long enough anyways to miss it and in the future I could just pick up a 400 or 500 prime if I find I need/want it.

So apart from everything but image quality/bokeh, can the 70-200 effectively replace these two lenses? I know its heavy, etc but it seems like it might be better than carrying two lenses.....

Advice?

What are you shooting? Unless you need the extra stop of light, I wouldn't bother. The 70-300 is an awesome piece of glass. Not particularily fast but you can compensate for that on the 5DII. And if it isn't sharp enough for you, you can slice your finger on the sharpness of the 135L, which covers your portrait needs.

I just shoot whatever....Karting, cars, people, landscapes. Just for fun. I would only do this to reduce the amount of "stuff" in the bag. I love the 135 for people pics and the 35 for almost everything else unless I need wider or longer, in which case I have the zooms.

the 70-200 2.8L II is as cheap as I've seen right now. i've got two 70-200 2.8's here (1 and 2) and have maybe used f2.8 on them 2 or 3 times. You might want to try the F4 version and see how you like it.

See, I'm the complete opposite. I'd do the swap any day. I had a 135L and sold it to get the F2.8. That mkII is really awesome, I knew people seemed to like it here but I wasn't sure if it was this good. It is.

I's prefer it over the 70-300L any day. That 100mm of range isn't enough to justify the change. I use mine with a 1.4x TC when I need more range. It's said to work really well with Canon's 2x TC III, it's on my wish list.

I would swap...add a 1.4x and 2x teleconverter and you are laughing!

In your case, where you're wanting to downsize, this seems like a very good idea and I would do the swap. For me I do not care about downsizing and would never sell my 135L. I sold my 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens last summer but if I did pick up the new MII version it would be in addition to what I already have but so far I do not have the need.

I would swap in a heart beat.

I wish I had the 70-200 Mk II. If you shoot karting it's a great zoom to have.
