Hi everyone -

Ill be entering one of these in a photo contest where one of the categories is "First Snow". I'm torn between color or BW - what do you guys think? Any other comments or critique?

Thank you!

B&W, for me. There is hardly any color in the first one.

B&W, but it still needs more. needs to pop more.... if you want, download the free trial of Silver Efx Pro 2, its a B&W edit program, you wont be dissapointed and you won't want to edit B&W any other way after using it IMO...

Black and white...shows the starkness of winter much better and seems to fit the mood of the image. But it could use some fine-tuning...looks a bit flat.

I like the desaturated colour personally. That slight tinge of brown sets off the idea of winter to me - everything is always a little dirty. But, I suppose that depends again on what you're going for. Peace and tranquility, or the cold, wet, dirty reality that a long winter can be.

I would go color in this case, or find a way to get that same contrast in your B&W image.

Hi, personally I like the first, that desat looks close to a nice duo tone. I think the bw lacks that critical contrast needed to be great.

Thanks for the comments guys. Although some people can get great BW results, I feel like I prefer my own work in color - generally. But, this one is close and as such Ive put a little more time into the BW image to see if I could add a bit more "zip" without going over the top.

What do you think now?

Revamped B+W image for sure. The color image lacks any pizzaz, in my opinion.

Of the first two, I'd go for the color, but I like the reworked B&W even better.
