Oh the difference location makes - rick getting tired of his tropical beach shots while the approaching winter and NYC skylines are boring me to death...

Hahaha so true. But this just prooves that grass is always greener on the other side.

By the way, I am in Sweden right now to visit my family. I will soon head to the northern parts and enjoy some fun in the snow. :D Can't wait!

@Crash222 - I have tested my copy of the lens with a 7D and all shots looked similar to yours, however the problem was not the lens, but the 7D. I kept my 600D and I will wait until I upgrade to something more advanced...Maybe your 7D needs focus fixing...

Here a shot of a swan. Can be downloaded also at full resolotion (18 MP) from picasa...

Haha good one. :D Thanks!

And Corey, awesome work on those snow portraits. The kind of photos that makes people long for winter!

Thanks everyone for the comments! Ya, I think we are all a little fascinated with the locals that Ricku shoots in! That and they are always amazing pictures.

Ricku, I don't remember if I have commented on the seagull shots here or in the 35L thread but they are great. The 35L shot is actually my favorite.

Corey, I love these shots!! Well done!!!

This is a stunning photo. Did you use a fill flash on this shot?

Questions for the owners of this lens...what would be the better place to buy from, B&H or Amazon? Or other? Both are same price right now at about $2100.

Just want to safeguard myself if I end up getting a defective or soft copy.

I just bought from B&H. Why? Because their hoods and extender were just a little bit cheaper.

Amazon - hands down. If you are a prime member, next day shipping for $3. Amazing return policy.

Bought my 70-200 @ Amazon directly - not Amazon third party. I bought my stuff thru Amazon and B&h with no problems. As far as return policy, both should be safe.

Well I have replacement coming from Amazon. I tried this copy last night at a high school football playoff game and I was still having the same problem. Some of the shots came out really good except for maybe being front or back focused. That is what makes me think there is something loose inside the lens. maybe part of the IS system. Especially since it makes the Louder grinding noise sometimes when it engages and disengages. I know it will make a slight noise and it does most of the time but every now and then it gets really loud. I have read complaints about this and Canon said there was an issue with the IS and replaced parts in the lens. Some of the shots are back focused and some are front focused. and some are dead on. Then some of them are so bad that nothing is in focus. It is not like when focus all the way to infinity or minimum focus and everything is smooth and out of focus. It is my like when an element gets out of alignment and the picture is just soft. Nothing is consistent. I haven't had this issue with my other lenses. I hope the replacement copy is better.

When one lays out thousands one may be simply wise going with any large proven service. I have found the low package at different sources. My 7D recent purchase ended up being placed with Calumet. In addition to a the significant better price I received excellent service. My order writer was definitely a professional who knew the product, it's operation. He was there to serve me to complete satisfaction. I was impressed when they called later the same evening as my order date to make sure they had an order from a valid account and person before picking and shipping the order. Shipping was free on standard ground service. As far as I can determine this quality service and pricing can only come from one of the larger companies. I have dealt with and like B & H likewise. I have friends who feel the same about Amazon when dealing directly with the company.

I check these three and will not change unless serious competitive pricing is a known factor packaged up with reported or experienced excellent service. In much of my life's doings I have learned to shy clear of the occasional low ball pricing outfits.

Nice shots, Corey. The 4th image is my favorite of all- pretty nice background choice...
@jwhittaker - What is the distance and aperture you took this shot from? The result looks a bit weird to me, but maybe this was your intention?
