Friday morning was very overcast and dreary out. I decided to walk down by the lake behind the house to see if I can snap some pics of herons. I have seen deer tracks down there often, but thus far haven't stumbled upon them.

I get down to the lake and I see a hawk on the ground in front of 40 or so canadian geese. He starts flying so I'm snapping a few pics and I see something out of the corner of my eye. It is a doe being pursued by a coyote.

Mr Coyote after giving up:

Interestingly enough, the hawk starts swooping down and pestering the coyote and puts him on the run. All the while, I'm thinking that it is cool to finally see a deer, but I sure wish it would have been a buck. I'm watching the hawk chase over the coyote and see something in my viewfinder. What do you know - a buck! Maybe it was a birthday present from God since it was my birthday ;) Sorry for the poor pictures, lighting was terrible and they were a long ways off across the lake.

What was the shooting distance and the lens used. The pics appear small. Perhaps some cropping may improve them.

What a great story, Jason! I also really like your photographs. They have a kind of unintentional painting quality that I like very much. And happy birthday!

They have been cropped. As noted they were across the lake a significant distance away. Anymore cropping and the images fall apart.
