I am attempting to set things up so I can shoot tethered with my Rebel XTi. It worked for about 6 pictures as tests, then it just quit working. I updated my EOS utilities, etc.... Oh, I am using Windows 7, so any help would be appreciated.

I have restarted computer, restarted camera both plugged in and unplugged to computer.

I don't think that the Rebel XTI is compatible with Windows 7. I know that the Rebel XT, which I have, is not compatible with Window 7.

I have the Xti and use it on Windows 7.

The fact that it worked for 6 pictures and then stopped is confusing.

The only suggestion I can make is to try a different USB port to plug into.
Something may have gotten messaed up with your USB drivers. Like a Windows update.

By the way is it Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

It is 64 bit. I will try a different USB port, did not think about trying that.

There are problems reported here with 64bit - apparantly it shouldn't have worked at all.

But ... who knows

Ok, switched USB ports... as long as I shoot one pic every 15-20 sec. it does work. I can not let the camera go into sleep mode though or have to restart my EOS Utility.

Thats goofy. Maybe there's some kind of timeout setting in EOS utility.

I'm not near my camera or pc with EOS utility on it right now.

Hey, what about that setting for file transfer PTP or whatever is it. Did you try switching that? Its in the camera menu.

EDIT - that might be only on my 5D. Not sure if its on the XTI
