A quick try at macro with 18-55mm kit lens with a bit of cheap glass stuck on the front, not good but not bad. no re-size just a little pp, the lens was resting on the can, I will give this more time tomorrow and post a few shots ( good or bad ) I just can't believe I could get that close with an own made rig.

BTW, like that shot DT.......

The pros aren't using telephoto f1.8 lenses because they don't exist as far as I know.

One good example of a long telephoto f/1.8 lens was the Canon 200mm f/1.8 lens, (external link) which has been out for production for years. Its replacement is the Canon 200mm f/2 IS lens. (external link)

Canon makes a few very fast lenses in the 85-135mm range.

Of course, the standard low-light telephoto lens is a 70-200mm f/2.8, which typically works well in situations such as these, where a Sigma version of the lens was mounted to a T2i.

I got to play with my 100-400 today, man this lens is sweet! As long as you follow the rule of of thumb on shutter speed of 1/focal length shots are razor sharp. Here are a few samples, all were shot using a monopod and my son took the photo of the gull in flight and he has never used a DSLR before. All are cropped to some degree.

Love this and the other cat shot. Wish mine would stay still long enough to take pics like these.
