So I've officially gone Nikon, just one Canon lens left to sell. I've started with a D7000 and got the 24-70G (couldn't resist trying it bc it had a $300 discount) but decided to return it. I picked up a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS (stabilization FTW) as I loved the lens on my 60D so I'm expecting good things from it.

I also grabbed a 35mm f1.8 DX, impressed so far, and hope to pick up a 50mm f1.8G in the next couple weeks. Would love the 24G but cannot justify the expense. I'll post up some photos as I get to learn my camera (several big differences after switching from Canon)

I'm trying to understand the in depth differences between the Nikon and Canon flash systems. Specifically the differences in how they work in various shooting modes i.e. M, Av, Tv. I've found the EOS flash bible at photonotes.org to be a great resource. Is there a similar document for the dark side?

I've found Nikon flash to work much the same as Canon, the main difference is you need less FEC. Oh and of course on Nikon effective flash FEC = EC + FEC. So if you have EC of -2 and FEC of 1 FEC is effectively -1.

Subscribing.
I am looking to make the move to Nikon and started a discussion before coming across this thread. Awesome stuff in here, and had all the info I was looking for (or reassurance really). Hopefully will be getting a Nikon early next year, first I gotta sell.

Love this thread.

Is this the 80-200 AF-D or the AF-S? I have been trying to decide between the 80-200 and the 70-300 in spring.

So the D4 leak spec are here:

- 16.2 MP
- 11 fps
- 100-102,400 native ISO range, expandable to 50 and 204,800
- CF + XQD memory card slots! That's right, the Nikon D4 will have the new Compact Flash XQD memory card slot.
- Compatible with the new Nikon WT-5 wireless transmitter
- Integrated Ethernet in the camera
- Face detection/recognition function that will be working in the viewfinder (maybe some type of a hybrid viewfinder? Nikon had several related patents)
- Improved video, I have no other details on that but my guess is 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24 similar to the Nikon D800
- Uncompressed video out through the HDMI port
- Ability to assign the two buttons on the front of the camera to smooth aperture control during video recording
- Improved 51 AF points
- AF detection range will go down to EV-2.0 (the D3s went to EV -1)
- Autofocus system: 9 cross-type sensors that are operational up to f/8
