By far, the best choice of the three for everyday still photography would be the Manfrotto 055XProB topped off with the Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head.

I have an 055xprob with the 498RC2 ball head. I've been using it for about a year, no complaints so far. What sort of work do you do? How much weight do you need to support? It will hold a 70-200 f2.8 or f5.6 400mm just fine in my experience.

I have the 055xprob with the 498RC2 as well, great solid setup. Handles my 7D gripped with the 70-200mm f4 no problem.

You might get a few more responses if you list the tripods in your post versus having someone click on all the links...

Not to jack your thread this may help you if you go with one of theses set ups. @ ben_r_ will this plate fit the 498RC2 http://www.adorama.com/BG3157N.html (external link), I know it says for use with the RC2 system but this it does not list the 498 in the description. Thanks for any help.

Yep, the 200PL is just the new name for the 3157N which was the new name for the RC2 plate. Same stuff, Manfrotto has just renamed it a couple times. See the notes at B&H's website: LINK (external link)
