To me #1 is the only choice.

Not picking but the others just do not stand out. In a contest you have to have an eye catcher.

My top picks are #1, #5, and #7. #1 is, by far, my favorite.

They are all good shots, but from a competition standpoint:

a) The pelican shot is good, but the OOF thing (another bird?) in the FG is distracting. You might consider cropping it out and making this a tighter portrait.
b) I like the feeding pair of peeps, but the BG bird is a bit OOF and that detracts ... it would have been more effective, IMHO, if it was much further OOF or sharp
c) It is a good redtail portrait, but on my monitor the whites look blown (also on the preening sandpiper)
d) The branches in front of the Lincoln Sparrow detract from that image

Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you!

All are outstanding but I'm drawn to #4 and #1. #1 is quite interesting but so busy that I can't look at it for too long. #4 invokes a sense of peace for me.

Good luck let us know what you went with and how you did.

I hate to sound like I'm jumping on the bandwagon but #1 and #4 immediately stood out for me.

#1 for the great pattern and texture created by the flock as well as the crazy number of birds.

#4 for the simplicity and mood as well as the intimate low angle. Reflections are big plus too.

I like the Hawk as well but I would like it more without such a tight crop. Also #4 could use a crop shift so that the bird at far right isn't quite so close to the edge of the frame.

Impressive photography Evan, best of luck in the competition.
