How about lifting the 1D4 count limit to show higher than 1999 exposures? You have 4 digits on the lcd!

Take an average of a few shots to get the file size for your specific camera and calculate the maximum shots it can take. If you really want to get an accurate range shoot some at ISO 100 and calculate and some at 102400 and calculate again.
