Bit of advise please

I have just picked up my first Billingham (secondhand) a 445 but it has no inserts

I am thinking of a 11-21 and a 10-15

I have a 5D II, 1D MK III , 70-200 2.8is, 35L and 24-7 I realise I am being ambitious to get this all in I would like to configure it with either of the bodies, all the lenses and a flash or two.

Thanks

Adrian,

If you are anywhere near East Finchley (home) or Moorgate (work) you are welcome to come and test out some configurations. I've a load of different inserts you can play with to see what you need, but unfortunately neither of those you list). As you probably know, the most critical dimension is the width of the insert, governed by the diameter of the lens with lens hood if needed, followed by the height.

Would probably fit fine.
Biggest problem is the width of the lenses.
You'd need a 9-18 (asymmetrical) to fit the 70-200L and a flash, and could leave the other two lenses on a body, or use a 9-15 for one of them
Edit: Oh, just one body at a time? No problem then. :)

Gents

Thank you for you advise. One more quick question I have discovered I actually have a 335, it was advertised as a 445 on ebay. Before I send it back can you get a 70-200 2.8 is on a body in an upright position in a 445? This was why I wanted the larger bag and going by the measurements I think I might just be able to.

Ian you are a little too far but it was a very kind offer. There is a thread for the SE, link in my thread if you are interested. We treat it as an online camera club.

Victor....you knew it was only a matter of time

You can probably get the bare 70-200L f/2.8 in the 335 vertically, but you could probably get it into the 445 while mounted to your camera. Is your lens the Mark-II which I think is a bit longer then the original one? You are also going to lose a few inches of width with the smaller bag which may impact how many lenses you can carry.

Given the difference in price, I would expect the seller to give you a partial refund if you decide not to return it. The inserts are also quite expensive, so if they were missing I hope your final price was appropriate. ;)

I have found the internal dimensions on Billinghams to be a bit conservative, so they hold more than I expect:

Billingham 445: 16 x 6.0 x 10.75" (WxDxH)
Billingham 335: 13.75 x 6.0 x 8.5" (WxDxH)

70-200L f/2.8 Mk-II: 8.6" bare ...... (10.8" mounted on camera)

-howard

PS. Thanks Dave, glad if I was able to help you ... let us know what your next Billingham is... :D

My 335 won't fit a 80-200 with hood, my 445 will.
Assuming the body isn't thicker then the 80-200L hood, it might fit (without hood)

Don't own a 70-200, but IIRC it will not fit a 445 with the hood on.

I think I've just about settled on the 307, and I won't be able to get back to B&H for a few weeks to test this out myself.

Will the 307 handle a gripped 7D, 70-200 2.8 attached or not plus the 15-85, Sigma 30 and 430Ex? I think it will but I'm wondering how much the bag will bulge. Anyone tried to fit a similar combo in this bag?

I can try to help, although I don't have a 307 or a gripped camera ... ;)

I posted pictures of my 207 with a 5D (ungripped), 70-200L f/2.8, 24-70L, 17-40L, and flash. The 307 is the same bag only 2" wider, which would probably accommodate your grip.

You will not be able to put a camera mounted 70-200 f/2.8 vertically in either bag. However, you may be able to carry it horizontally in the 307, but I don't know that you would have a satisfactory solution for the other lenses and flash at the same time.

I think Rezolution posted a gripped camera photo earlier in this thread also in a 207. Perhaps comparing the two photos may give you some ideas if the 207 or 307 would work for you.

Good luck and let us see what you decide on... :D

Thanks Howard, I have a trip to NYC in about 2 weeks so i'm thinking of just heading over to B&H with my gear and see how much I can fit. Unfortunately, no one in my area carries anything as high end as Billingham.

I really hope it works out, I looove the 307. I've even found a matching leather jacket..lol!!! :D

I was over at B&H today and it started raining outside on the way. I love how I don't have to even think about my gear getting wet with Billingham. Especially it's nice to be free of that nagging "it's sprinkling a little! If it starts to rain some more, at what point do I take out the shroud?" Billinghams don't need no stinkin' shroud. :)

Had my gear in my Retro10PS At Cape Cod. Rain=put shroud on. Came home and bought my Billingham Hadley Digital bag. Couldn't shoot with gear shrouded.
