It is so random when 2-3yr old topics come back from the dead :p

Well... we are asked to do a search before posting topics, to see if it has already been discussed.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Thanks Nathan.

I did go thru many searches before I posted (that is how I came across this one). I could not really decide on where to post either, as I had the choice of posting in all of the following, lighting, posing, studio, portrait, family, people etc. Sometimes very difficult to nail down.
Then you get such helpful advice from others about digging up old posts.

My wife & I went back to a place we lived 10 years ago - the whole neighborhood showed up (~16 people). I took a lot of pics, including the one that has been described: ladies seated on chairs & gents standing behind. That turned our OK, but one of my friends there who was a photographer did me one better. I sent him a usb-key with all the pics on it & he made an 8x10 collage that included my shots of individuals and couples - it was much better presentation than the "all-together" shot.

I've looked, but haven't been able to find a low-priced software that would enable me to do that.

That is a pretty good idea Gator. This is a gift for my in-laws so I need to check with my client/wife. :D I think she is looking for a more classic look though.

For info - I just downloaded and examined Fotofusion. While it's nice, it doesn't appear to have a circular area-selection/masking capability - at least in the free (watermarked) version.

I will probably be laughed at for this but i use google's picasa for some real basic editing fixing horizons and cropping and that has a collage function in it.

You, for one, followed the "rules" and got called out for reviving an old thread. I kinda feel for you, since there are tons and tons of new threads about comparing body A to body B and what lens one should be for this or that purpose or which L is the sharpest. Crazy people. I say... if it's an old thread... start a new one.

Anyway... I'd like to see what this "collage" looks like. That could be any of a variety of things and I'm not sure if I am thinknig about it correctly.

One idea for posing groups is looking... as wild as this sounds... is looking at comic book art. There are lots of comic book teams like the Jurice League or Teen Titans that you could borrow poses from. Some of my favorite are Gen13 poses.
