Pretty useless eh?
No bumping at ALL even when having legitimate reasons to do so... Price changes, item changes, etc.. I don't think many people use the search function for trying to find lenses for sale so once the item up for sale is pushed into the realms of page 3+ it's buried for ever. After I posted my items for sale a few days ago it was buried within 10 hours and then poof, it's essentially not gotten ANY views.
I know that this forum does not want to take part in any way with the transactions, but I mean c'mon...
I can't wait for all the responses berating me for criticizing a "free classifieds section"... yeah, that'll really change my mind, lol.

Have you used the "Last Post" sort order? I believe most avid For Sale surfers choose that sort order to keep up with the latest postings.

How do you know people don't use the search function? I think you are wrong. And the reason your item was buried is , A, you priced too high, or B, it wasn't desirable. The market is a free one. I have sold over $30,000 in items here and I am only an occasional seller. I price aggressively and usually have many inquiries and people lining up. All that in spite of no bumping, etc.

I have also had items not sell and be buried. Those were items people did not want. It's nobody's fault and certainly not the fault of the rules.

When I go on FM, I think the "daily bump" is so childish as to be distasteful and a joke.

I dunno about others, but 90% of my "buys" from POTN market, were done using the Search button.

I use the search feature too when I am looking for soemthing specific. With all our members, it would be horrible and make the forum useless if anybody could just repost their items for sale. Waiting four weeks is not unreasonable.

First thing I do is hit the "last post" button every visit.

Works like a champ - I can work backwards to see any new posts until I reach my last visit. The only thing this method will not pick up is if the OP edits the first post with a new price, but does not add a new post at the bottom mentioning the update.

pretty useless? not at all...it's awesome
the only things that get buried that I see are things no one wants and or priced too high.
I've bought and sold much here and love the classifieds

too if I don't see what I want right away I do a search for what i'm looking for.
think about part of your statement that alludes to how fast an item gets buried......that alone speaks to how successful the classified ads here are.

Why wouldn't you use the search function? Don't you know what you're looking for? If I come on here to buy a 5d...I type "canon 5d" into search... I don't just miraculously hope that one pops up on the front page as I keep mashing F5

Why does everybody list their gear here?

Nobody will berate you for criticizing a 'free classified section' at all. OTOH, we'd boil you in oil for bumping YOUR for sale advert every 2 hours so it remained at or near the top.

Trust me Eric, I frequent buy sell boards for high end guitars and amps where bumping is legal. Most people 'bump' their own FS post at least twice a day. And who the hell wants to see the same POS stratocaster that nobody wants to buy 'bumped' to the top of the board day in and day out?

I much prefer the no bumping rule and use the search function when I'm considering a purchase.

serious buyers like my self always use the search function as to not pass up a deal , I notice the best time to post is 6pm eastern and midnight on the west coast..so I check both time periods when searching for deals then do the search function on what ever item I want to see which had the best deal ...love this forum good luck with your sale..

You also have the useless bumps from people just wanting to add to their post count with irrelevant or oot comments.
Can you imagine how annoying it would be to see the same item for sale but with "I would buy this if I didn't have mine", or "mine is super sharp", "I wish I had the money" or "GLWYS"?
It seems like the same people do it over and over again...

You have no idea the number of these types of posts that get deleted. If the poster is too prolific in his vacuous postings he gets a nasty gram :-)
