Because it has 9 AF points, of which only the center is cross-type. Move over to the 7D and you get 19 AF points, all of which are cross-type.

If your 40D AF works good for you, then there is no difference (besides the AI servo assist points).

Not only that but the 5D2's AF points aren't spread out to compensate for the full frame. So while on the 40D, the AF points are spread out decently, on the 5D2 it's really a center point and a few points which are slightly off center.

I have to stop looking. Paid 2500 in May.
Then again, our son got to take the trusty 450d to Italy for school this fall, so it's all good. He's got the bug now!

Ouch...though I feel your pain. I bought the kit for $2800 and then saw a body only go for $1700 the next day...with a spare LP-E6 too.

I just bought mine yesterday morning when they dropped the price to 2039 and the 12 hours later they are selling it for 1999 and then it comes with a 16gb cf card and a shoulder bag. I was sooooooo happy about the deal until I knew I missed out on a cf card and lowe pro bag as well as some video software but now Im just happy.

You may get a price adjustment. Usually they seem to do that.

I used a 5DII for a wedding before I purchased one. I had no problems at all with focusing and producing wonderful images. I don't see what the issue is. Now I am upgrading from the 40D so it's pretty similar AF wise.
