Do it... What's Another $399?
That's used pricing... :)

That is exactly my logic on the 580 EXII. I can sell my 430 EXII, but it might be worthwhile to keep it as I'm planning on shooting some BMX ramps next spring and the dual flash setup might be nice.

lol....this is like a guilt thread. I spent just over 5K...5D MKII, 85L and 16-35L. As soon as I replenish my account a bit I will get a 580EX II as well.

I'm lagging. So far I just got the 35L. I told my wife I want the 135L and/or 580EXII for Christmas. If I don't get the 135L, I'll probably order it myself on the 26th. On the fence on the 580, though I realize that's used pricing so I could sell it later for no loss if I didn't use it much. I'm content to wait and see what Mrs. Claus does. ;)

In all seriousness, I go into the holiday season ready and knowing that I may spend a lot of money on smokin' deals. Sometimes, you can save a ton of money, so I hold off on my big purchases until this time of year. Or when Canon has a great rebate. Etc.

I've saved a ton of money over the last 4 or 5 years doing it this way.

You're going to make me broke. Now I've got a 135L, 580EXII and a 24-70 in my cart at B&H. I'd sell my 24-105, but still a pretty large outlay of cash! Just can't do it this year... But that is a fantastic plan, I'm just too impatient once I decide I want something.

In addition to the outlay - the used market sucks for sellers right now.

I'm in for the B&H 70-200 IS II sale, and there are tons of 70-200's and 70-200 IS Version I's from everyone who upgraded that are pushing the prices down. Luckily I have until January 21st before the CC bill is due to sell my old copy.

I'm trying to avoid the little voice in the back of my head that is saying "just keep them both".

Glad to hear that I am not the only one helping the economy!

Yeah. December is a bad time to sell used gear. Quite the flood of "stuff" from those buying these high dollar lenses at great prices. Gotta make room in the budget for them.

I'm more of a prime shooter anyway, so I'll stick to my 24-105. I'm definitely getting the 135L (don't tell the wife I worded it like that...) and I'm hoping to get the 580 as well. It helps to know down the road I could sell the 580 for no loss, or my 430EX (1) to help with the cost.

I don't feel so bad knowing you guys are as addicted as I am this holiday season. Here's my confession list:

Canon 5d II
Quadra Ranger A set (purchased from Sell forum on this site)
70cm Octa + EL Adapter, Snappy case
24-70 f2.8
Pelican 1510 case
16" QBox
Toploader 75 pro + a couple of lens cases + chest harness
Calumet 7" grid set for my quadra
Honl Grids for my speedlites
Couple of Manfrotto nano stands
Skyport Speed kit
Westcott Apollo Orb
Manfrotto flex arm, super clamp
Morris Mini flash
2x16GB Extreme Pro CF cards
2x16GB Extreme Pro SD cards

Phew. Feels good getting that off my chest. Thanks, everyone ;)

BTW, you Americans are lucky. I'm an IT Consultant from Canada working here in the States - that's the only way I can justify all of these purchases: little to no tax and better pricing. Sure beats purchasing from Henry's/Vistek. I'm going to miss shopping here when my current project ends.

First the 35L for $1,255 from Adorama...and now I just got a gold box offer from Amazon on the 85L for $1,766.

$3K later and I'm feeling a little financially beat up...and once the wife finds out, it may become reality...

This is the time when I wish POTN had a like button

I am in the same shape minus the wife.

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

Is it wrong that I'm capping all the kids (my siblings children) to $5 toys because I just purchased the 5dii and 35L for myself? lol

And freaking amazon, give me a deal on a lens, not a childrens toy. I've messed with my 'recommendations' constantly to reflect what I want

Joining the club - 24-70 for a net of $1160 and the 70-200/2.8 IS II for a net of $1895. Good thing I have a credit card the wife doesn't know about.

Smart move bud....doing the same thing, when I get caught I just say " you gotta spend money to get money honey.." seems to work for now :)
