This may be a silly question, but does the 1div images crop better than the 7D?
I have the 7D, and if I crop as much as this image was, I don't believe the result would be useable.

Then I started playing around with it. This is a crop taken from that picture.

Yes IMO the 1D Mark IV withstands cropping better. The extra "reach" one gets with the 7D is negated by the noisier pixels and extra sharpening required. I can crop a 1D Mark IV image with the same FOV as a 7D and have better results. YMMV.

20 degrees and no moisture in the air last night. Tried out this Tokina 11-16. I really like it on the 1.3 format.

Gorgeous pics, Mike.

I was just going to ask to see some landscape/wide angle, and macro photos taken with the 1D Mk IV.

^^^^

Thanks. Appreciate the comments. Have not tried the macro yet. Will get some Friday night with the ring shots. SO much I'm impressed with the IV> it is just a killer camera. This Tokina really did the trick. Wide angle shots on a 1.3 format. I'm stoked:cool:

^^

No prob.

Although I'd love to get a 1DX when it's released...or one day at least, I'm more likely going to have to settle for either the 1D Mk IV, or I may even settle for the 1D Mk III. (Love the 10 FPS). Just worried a bit about enlarging files from the 10 MP 1D Mk III up to 30" x 40", and keeping them looking crystal clear, and having pristine sharpness.

Also the rear LCD screen on the 1D III won't do my aging eyes any favours.

For wide angle on which ever of those two bodies I do decide on, I may go with a modified Canon EF-S 10-22, or the Tokina 11-16.

Can't wait to see some more of your images, Mike.

Hi Frank

I have a 7D as well and I have never been able to crop that much and get such a good result as I can with the 1D Mk IV.

Bit of a paradox as the 7D has more pixels.

Cheers, Oggy :)

I I've had 1D Bodies since the 1DMkII and made the mistake of selling the 1DIII for the 7D and will never do it again. The 7D has crappy pixels. No mater what people say on this board. They just don't handle well at ALL especially at anything ISO 800 and up.
