Anyone own a Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM
For their XSI? What type of results have you gotten.
Thinking of purchasing this or the
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
but 1,400.00 is alot compared to the sigma.

I own the Sigma 150-500 that you are asking about. I have gotten decent shots at times other times I am not happy with it. I have seen other folks get much better results than I have gotten. I am thinking perhaps I need to send it to Sigma for a physical check-up. Check out THIS THREAD.

You can get the lens from AMAZON (external link) for $1069.

I read through a lot of that thread but I didn't see to many XSI owners thought I'd try here were we all have the same body. Have you reserched the canon 100-400? I had the chance last year to try. shot nice clear photos but cost a lot more. I mostly would be using for wildlife. So I was lookinng for the longest reach.

I have never had the chance to try a a 100-400. I also was wanting the longest reach possible. From what I had seen in the thread I showed you, I thought the lens was very promising. The Sigma was just a bit more affordable than the 100-400 as my wallet was on tight restrictions.

I guess the next question to ask you is when you go out do you find yourself reaching in your bag for the 70-300 because its better quality and then crop your image or do grab the 150-500 for the reach?

I'm also interested in a longer telephoto lens, The comparisons I've seen show the various Sigmas (150-500, 50-500, 120-400, etc.) not quite having the "IQ" resolution of the Canon 100-400 but if I could get a used Sigma cheap then it may be worth it

Those are sharp shots Christine. What lens did you use for those, if you don't mind me asking?

I used the Sigma 30mm, I'm really happy with it!
