I completely forgot to take a setup shot but have put together a diagram showing the setup.
So here's the deal: I wanted to create a scene that felt wintry, using the decorations as the main objects. Obviously when thinking about 'wintry' the first thing that comes to mind is snow. Problem number one: I live in Barbados. Outside is 88°! Okay, think. Bingo! An hour later, one food processor and a heck of a lot of styrofoam packing material and we're good to go. We've got snow!
So I set everything up as I wanted and started firing off a few test shots. Problem number two: only one set of working flash triggers, yet I need to fire two flash units. Easy solution. Close all curtains, kill all ambient light and shoot longer shutter speeds. This allowed me to fire the second flash manually. Problem three: BORING background! Tried all kinds of things, leaves, fabrics, ribbons, you name it. Nothing looked right. Okay, think again. Bingo again! Bokeh. Fire off a few of the fully lit tree and now we have a background.
Spent a couple of hours in Photoshop tweaking various things and voila.
P.S. Sorry Jay, I know it's kind of similar!
