Canon 70D/70-200 f4/17-55 2.8/BG-E9/430EZ I like DSLR's. It makes a distinction between photo fans and normal people who don't give a damn how a picture could look like

I posted this question in another thread under Accessories but haven't gotten much response.

For anyone that has a genuine Canon BG-E9 grip for their 60D can you tell me for fact what material it is made of? In some places on the interweb I'm hearing magnesium and in others I'm hearing plastic. Which is it?

Got my 60d today... Woot woot!!!

Freaking lens hood somehow blocks eithe the flash or it gets on the way at the bottom center. :(

If its a petal shaped hood try repositioning the hood with the petal shape in a different orientation/angle.

Silica Infused Polycarbonate (glass reinforced plastic). Same construction as the 60D body.

Btw: FYI to any lurkers/readers out there. The 60d is the first modern Canon XXD body that did not employ a magnesium alloy frame. But pick up a TXi variant and then pick up the 60D and you can definitely tell the difference. It's no 7D body but it's no plastic fantastic TXi either.

Not many people realize this but the 60D employs two "firsts" for canon. That is the unique multi use directional scroll wheel and a new reinforced polycarbonate body, both of which are not represented on any other canon body. To be fair, the body has yet to be proven over a long multiple generation series like the XXD but barring any negative influences Canon will likely keep it for future series'.

Canon 60D FTW!

Thanks babel_fish. I knew the body was polycarbonate but wasn't sure about the grip. It makes sense that it's the same material.

I'm honestly trying to decide between the 60D and the 7D (yes another one of us). I shoot video as well as sports and have been doing a ton of research on shooting action sequences. At 5.3 FPS, the 60D should be able to handle shooting sequences. I do wish it was the same fps as the 50D but it should do fine.

Anyone here shoot any action sequence shots that are merged together in PS with the 60D?

IMHO if you absolutely require 8fps in order to feel like an adequate sports shooter and you have 1500$ to spend I would point you towards the 1D pro body. It has nearly 3 times the AF points and a fantastic heritage that is still being used on the field today.

I refuse to compare the AF functionality of the 60D vs 7D as they were built and engineered for two different market segments. If you REALLY want to see how the 60D does in AF go into the Birding thread and post/search for 60D BIF (thats bird in flight if you may not have known)and ask those guys. BIF is a very critical test for AF algorithms and those guys in that forum are highly critical with gear.

Back in the ranks of the 60d owners. I had sold mine but due to a faulty pop-up flash, I bought it back and think I'll keep it a while.

Lenses- Canon 70-200L, Sigma 2.8 70-200, Tamron 2.8 28-75, Canon 85 1.8, Canon 50 1.4, Bower Fisheye, and others

Thanks! It didn't stay up there long, but it's nice to know that it's possible, lol. Now I need to get a shot up there that doesn't rely on... ummm... skin. ;)

I'd say it is the sharpest landscape lens there is. Even the Zeiss 21mm falls short. Can't wait to see some of your shots with it!

Seasons Greetings to all 60D users

You know someone is serious when the TS breaks out!

By the way. Too bad there are no Canon 60D bodies for sale. Out of stock at any place I would purchase from. :(

Had to settle for the 5d2 and a 17-40L as a backup camera. The 70-200 will get welded onto the 60D and I am going to sell my 10-22 EFS along with 17-70 Sigma.

Also, now I can start doing more timelapse shots with my 60D. :)

 - had to settle for a 5D2 - the TS really needs a FF body.. that's the next saving mission, a FF
