The 15-85 was described to me by a Canon engineer as the first EF-S lens to be designated "L" if they ever extend that ranking to EF-S. Other than the variable aperture it's the equal on my 7D to my 24-105 on my 5D.

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

I like your spinny tree pics. How does the electrical cord not get tangled up when it spins?

The part with the electrical that feeds the lights rotates with the tree, its all in the central "pole" thing and its plugged into the base (I think it has contacts on it..i cant remember, im not the one that sets it up)

Is anyone else having issues with this lens sucking up dust? I'm not sure if I am doing something to cause this but I seem to keep getting more and more dust visible behind the front element. I imagine you have to send it back to Canon get it out of there?

I read that on the wide end it would be nice to fix the image's edges with Canon software. What corrections do you do on your photos if you're using the Canon software? I'll get the lens tomorrow btw.

Edit : I just got my lens, go out, and took some shots. I took the same shot with 10-22 and posted it on the 10-22 thread...

Taken during the winter this year on a Free State cattle farm in South Africa, near the Lesotho border.

has anyone had any issues with the focus on this lens
mine has started to not focus at all for about 20 seconds with multiple stabs on the shutter button - it also is the same manually, the focus ring just doesn't seem to connect. when it clicks in its fine but the time seems to be getting longer each time (the lens is just over a year old - about 16 months)
no issues at all with quality - its great in that respect
guess I'm going to have to send it in to Canon eventually

This lens is extremlely fast focusing due to USM motor. It seems that you have a bad USM motor or connection issue somewhere within lens. Did you try cleaning your contacts on lens/camera ?

I would send it to Canon. Sucks you have to pay so much to Canon after spending a lot on EF-S lens which is almost par with L but not really L lens.

I like those shots. Took me a bit to figure out how you got that result :)

From my new 15-85. No editing done, except RAW conversion and resizing for the web. I am hoping I got a good copy. Comments invited.
