HI i have a question..i have a t1i with a 24-70l lens but i also want extra reach and also a full frame camera, but i can only afford one or the other right now. should i buy a 70-200l II and wait for a 5d III or what ever itll be, or pick up a 5d II now and save for the 70-200 later..

70-200 2.8 IS II. The 5d2 is getting long in the tooth and a refresh is likely to happen soon although exact date unknown. It will also likely have a much improved af system. The lens is a recent design and the best zoom lens made by canon IMO. It will retain value where the 5d2 is likely to have a substantial drop in the next year.

If you want reach you are going to be giving up 60% reach with the 5D MKII. Personally I was disappointed in the 5D MKII and feel the 7D a superior body (I am sure plenty will disagree - though few who have owned both). For what it is worth - if the 7D came with the option of full frame or crop I would take the crop. Does not cost much to get a wider lens for a crop yet tele lenses are so much more expensive.
5D MKII is a few years old. Old technology - while it may be a step up from the body you have there are much better values out there for less $$
The 70-200mm MKII lens is impressive. I just added a 2x extender to get more out of it. Thing is you could pick up a 7D and a Sigma 70-200mm with IS for not much more $$ than either the MKII options your looking at. While the SIgma lens is a step down from the Canon lens you will probably end up with comparable results to what you will get with the body you have and the MKII lens.

If it is just a choice between the 5D and the 70-200 then I would lean toward the 70-200. Bodies lose value while lenses (depending on when you buy them) tent to hold or gain value. Plus a good lens on an average body will yeild better results than an average lens on a good body. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk5IMmEDWH4 (external link)

I'd say get the lens and wait for the new 5D to come out. The 70-200 is at a very good price right now.

Go for the lens, its new, the best ever 70-200 and should last for years

Lens, lens, lens. The 5D II has a much better of chance of dropping in price vs the 70-200.

Thanks all, i think i made up my mind, going to order the lens and wait for the body..and i think most of you are right, the body should drop more than the lens will..

Merry Christmas!

if you want to get into FF why not dump the rebel and get original 5d? That will save you $1000 which you put towards a nice lens.

+1. I ditched my 30D and got a 5D classic with a couple cheapish primes. Never looked back.

i'd say go 5D2 simply because you have a great ef lens already (24-70).

Your 24-70 will work heaps better when used on the ff body.

If you have a couple of ef-s lens, my suggestion would have been the 70-200mk2.

Why will it work so much better? All it will do is give a wider FOV
