Taylor (tkbslc) - I think you'd agree with me, yes?

It's the most inexpensive camera with a 28mm lens, a CMOS sensor,
optical image stabilization, 1080p video and a direct video button.

Not the best out there, but definitely the best if you have not much more than $100.

Anyone care to rebut?

I think they are a great camera as well, I bought one for my parents for xmas. :) Many people on here seem to recommend the 300HS, but in my area it's $50 more than the 100HS which is not as good a value in my opinion. When I consider how much I paid for my S100, that is several times more than the 100HS and for many situations I am sure both will get very similar results.

That's my point exactly!
Bringing photography power to people who know little about photography
or are willing to invest only a small amount of money for that matter.

Hey, I thought it was WELL worth the $180 I paid for it back when it was new. It was still the cheapest with a backlit sensor, f2.8 zoom and HD video.

Camera of the year? Well for the full auto crowd, sure. :)

Got the wife one for Christmas as she has a couple of trips planned early this year and springtime. I'll help her get up and running on it and she'll show up with some decent shots, I'd guess!

And yeah, for the price the camera packs a LOT of value!

That's nice to hear, I just got one because I need something smaller than my other 2 canons. I almost went with a sony but in the end I went with canon. I'm familier with the software and it seems like I still have most of the features of my other.

the elph 100hs raised the bar with what is possible for a budget point and shoot. especially with the current pricing of canon's cameras in the USA, there is almost no reason for anyone to consider the A series powershots or budget cams from other manufacturers. if someone wanted to spend less, i would tell them the image quality is worlds apart and is worth it to skip eating out 2-3 times to get the better camera.

i would say, i recommended this camera the most to family and friends who wanted something with high iq and easy to use. they were always surprised by the low price point and the quality of images.

Point and shoot Camera of the year? Im not sure, but i would say its Canon's camera of the year. 100hs definately raised the standard more for its class than the s100.

I am a DSLR guy, but since I am into timelapses, and need a cheap camera to put out in the sticks, I thought I'd get one to try out, and I love the thing for some reason. Now all I have to do is wait for CHDK. Great little cam, we ended up getting mom one for christmas.
My only problem is that it doesnt have full Manual, but Canon has done such a good job with it, that it would rarely be needed. IQ seems to be almost the equel of a non-L lens. an L will blow it away, but what can you expect? for a $100 camera and lens, I'll take it! Definately stands tall in the point and shoot department.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

Bought myself one on the weekend for $145. In Australia the Elph 100 HS is known as the IXUS 115HS.

I quite enjoy using the high-speed burst mode on mine.

Tom,

You're right about the ELPH 300 being a better camera for not-so-much-more money,
but the ELPH 100 better emphasizes how far the $100 area of compacts has advanced -
from a 36mm non-stabilized CCD based camera to a 28mm stabilized CMOS one.
