Here are a couple of "out of the ordinary" ways one would imagine using a 500mm. Shooting fish :D

Thank you Atsumi. That fish is downright gorgeous and the flash helps bring out the colors on the iridescent scales.

@BP,
Had just finished the maintenance and wiped he glass clean in some of the tanks...unfortunately hadn't done the same on the Channa tank. Shooting exactly perpendicular and using OCF sure helped too
