I shoot only raw and save 99% of them. I average about 1TB per year of file storage. Last month I got a 3TB Seagate for under $100.00.

Today I received a request for some pictures taken in 2006.

1TB drives are about £60. Storage is cheap.

Delete the obvious OOF/Blurred by all means but storage is so cheap these days im not sure its worth sorting further.

Actually storage int so cheap right now. A few months back I bought a 2.5" drive for my wife's laptop. 500GB for $49.99. I went back to buy the same drive for our HTPC and its $120 now. A 1TB 3.5 inch drive on amazon is over $100. Still relatively cheap but twice what is was 6 months ago.

Yeah, I am waiting (hopefully) for HD prices to drop again. I would like to buy another 2 or 3TB external for backups.

To be clear, I only deleted most of the RAW's off my main HD. Most are still on my external which I plan to keep. But that drive is only 100GB away from being full, so I need to get another one soon! After my trip next week, I am sure I will nearly fill the rest up.

My ideal plan, is to overlap my backups. I am about to fill up my first external backup (1TB). When I buy my new HD, I plan to backup the entire 1TB on my current, and then use the other 1 or 2TB for all new stuff. Then when that is filled, backup all the new stuff on the 3rd, etc... So I always have at least two backups of all the material.

I've been meaning to go through mine. Paid stuff, family/children etc I will keep but I have things like RAW files from car shows from 3/4 years ago & stuff like that..... Gonna bin the RAWs & keep the full size jpegs.

When I've done lots of nearly identical shots, I'd rather find the best one once (cull the rest), then you don't have to look for the best one again.

I started doing the same a while ago. Now I try to take that bit of extra care & only take the one shot in the first place.

Just last night I was looking in my library, going over the folders of stuff I shot the first week I had my XTi. It was sad and hilarious at the same time. "Why did I keep THIS??!?"

^^^ That's a handful of files to keep to note your progress ;)
