I'd like something with high optical zoom if possible. I prefer Canon, of course, but am open to other brands. If you couldn't have a DSLR, what would be the BEST P&S camera you could choose? I'd go with either the Canon G12 or the Fuji X100. 50D | 1000D | 30V | 17-40L | 18-55 USM | 24-105L | 28 2.8 | 50 1.8 II | 70-300 IS | 580EX II | 430EX II

I have both (Thanks to Santa for the latter) but i find Im using the G12 less and less because of the x100. Drinking alcohol never solves anything. But neither does drinking milk.

EORI Senior Member ![]() More info | I'm surprised there aren't more m43 users or advocates here. After many years of using the G7 followed by the G10 and S90, I finally purchased the Olympus E-P3 in September, and there is no comparison in shooting speed (virtually no AF or shutter lag and much faster processing) or image quality. I have the 12mm f/2 (24mm FF equivalent), 20mm f/1.7 (40mm), and 45mm f/1.8 (90mm) lenses, and used wide open, I can achieve nice background blur, which is another major plus for the m43 format. The format still lacks fast pro zooms, but they already have native zoom lenses to cover the entire range now: 14-28 (FF equivalent), 24-100, 90-300, 200-600, etc. Because of the sensor size and mirrorless design, all of these lenses are lighter, and generally much smaller, than FF lenses, and even the APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras. If you haven't tried an m43 system, you really owe it to yourself (and your back) to give it a try. It's highly addictive.
