Was about £2500. Paid off the £400 with my 30D :p

I'm hoping to add another £4000 to that investment cost soon though. Need a couple of more lenses...

Same here. But we have 2 shooters so thats why the extra body. But the investment has paid for itself a long time ago. Frankly i could care less now what gear costs ( within reasons ). If we need it, we buy it. 25 weddings in the plans for 2012 so we dont skimp on gear. Peacfield im sure your the same way.

same here + studio equipment (strobes+modifiers)

+1 on the L-glass doing better than my stock portfolio, lol.....

I think that I have probably spent 6-7k or so, but I have sold everything that I don't use too....

That depends on the definition. If you extend the gear to computers, software, backups, test prints, workshops, conferences, books, upgrades, etc - everything I would not have bought as a non photographer, I'm easily over $10,000 in the past 5 years. Actually, I'm sure I spend more then $2000 per year.

Photography is expensive! How much have YOU invested?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Photog gear since May 2011: <$2000
Projected photog gear in 2012: +$1200-1500
Knowing my budget would be 2-3x more if I wasn't married: Priceless :(

Well, 50D + 50 1.8 was about $1100, then I got the 5DII Kit + 135L, so that was another $4000, plus the $300 or so for the 50 1.4, which leaves me about $5500 in the span of just over 1.5 years. Not too bad ;)

Not including computers and software, as they are used primarily for other purposes, I'm knocking on 10k after 4 years. This rebate season pushed me up considerably, as well as my 5D2 last fall. I project less than $500 this year on maybe backdrops and maybe a 72mm CPL. If I try to buy any lenses or bodies I think I'll end up divorced and that will cost a lot more!

You're very kind by using 'invested' rather 'spent / wast'

Remind me when we went to shop for fancy cars, the cars' salesmen used the same 'key word'....

Sorry, camera gear is anything but an investment! :D

go on - at least one of us bought your calender... ;)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
