I had bad experience with old Portra, but that was mainly because the lab underdeveloped the negatives (4 rolls of 120).

Ah I see, well I'm pretty sure it's not my lab, they do a great job with everything else I send them.

unfortunately yes it is correct.. i love using 400H though have you tried that yet?

I have not yet, I have heard it is quite nice though. I had gotten lucky and got a brick of 20 rolls of 160S for almost nothing, so I have a small supply, otherwise all my stock is black and white.

I will look into 400H though, thanks for the tip! (As a rule, I tend to prefer Fuji over Kodak anyways)

Heres one from the first roll of Fuji 160S that I shot.

Dig. (external link) by Abram Goglanian (external link), on Flickr

I really like how even and mellow the tonality of this film is. This was taken late in the day so I was kind of pushing it for 160 speed film.

Nice one Joby

Thanks! It was a lucky find one morning. The fog was only in a 1 square mile area around this bridge and I caught it before the sun got too high.

If you set the ISO higher than the box speed you will underexpose the negative. 600 is less than a stop difference and most film can handle that without any necessary change in development. If you shoot 400 @ 800 you may want to push the development 1 stop to compensate. A film like Portra 400 can still look good even at 1600 without a push.

I have a eos 30v/elan 7ne with a 24-105l , what would be the best film to use in very good light? I did like fuji reala 100 but cannot get it here any more.

If you like the saturation of Reala then you would probably like Ektar 100. I used to like the Superia 100 by Fuji but they discontinued it once the Reala was going. If you want a less saturated look you could shoot Portra 160.

Here is another from my typology series on portals:

Thanks! Your pointer is beautiful. It is amazing you got him to sit still that long. Here is mine doing what she does best. These are actually 2 separate shots with my Black Slim Devil (UW&S clone) and Fuji 400 film:
